Kyle Kunnecke smiling with arms crossed, wearing a hand-knit striped sweater

Hi there!

My name is Kyle Kunnecke and I am a knitwear designer, author, and instructor based in Tacoma, WA.

Colorwork is my not-so-secret passion. My designs show up in books and magazines, in collections for yarn companies, and under my own label, Kyle William™. In my workshops, my goal is simple: give you the skills to keep going on your own.

My book, Urban Knit Collection (Revised 2nd Edition), is published by David & Charles. It has 18 modern patterns inspired by architecture and city life, plus an expanded section on locked floats, the method I use to manage floats in stranded colorwork.

At home, most of my time goes into new designs and techniques. Every so often I dye a little yarn, and I keep a spinning wheel around just for fun. When I’m not knitting, I’m usually tackling a project around the house or slowly turning my yard into an English cottage garden.

I also collect sand and dirt from all over the world, each sample in its own tiny glass bottle and labeled with where and when it was found. Friends send me samples too. You can see where they’ve all come from on my Sand & Dirt map.

Lily, my rescue cat who has been by my side since 2017, loves to supervise from her spot in front of the fireplace or in a sunny spot in front of the window.

I teach online and at events around the country, and sometimes around the world. You can see where I’ll be next on the Workshops & Events page. If you’d like me to teach for your shop or guild, get in touch.

I believe creativity has the power to heal, and that sharing our stories through craft makes the world a better place.
