Colorwork Basics
You CAN knit colorwork! Please complete these three swatches before the workshop, and bring them with the yarn still attached.
Homework
Knit each swatch from its own source of worsted-weight yarn. Partial balls are fine.
Swatch 1: On a US 6 circular needle, with light-colored yarn, CO 28 sts.
Row 1: Purl to end.
Row 2: Knit to end.
Row 3: P4, place marker (pm), purl to last 4 sts, pm, purl to end.
Do not cut yarn. Leave on the needle.
Swatch 2: On a US 6 circular needle, with light-colored yarn, CO 30 sts.
Row 1: Purl to end.
Row 2: Knit to end.
Row 3: Purl to end.
Do not cut yarn. Leave on the needle.
Swatch 3: On a 16-inch US 6 circular needle, with light-colored yarn, CO 80 sts. Join in the round, being careful not to twist. Pm to mark the beginning of the round. Knit 6 rounds.
Do not cut yarn. Leave on the needle.
Please have all yarn wound and ready to use.
Bring to the workshop
- Your three homework swatches, yarn still attached
- An additional US 6 circular needle (16 to 24 inches is ideal)
- 2 to 3 partial balls of solid-color worsted-weight wool that contrast with your light swatch colors
- Tapestry needle, scissors, and stitch markers
- Note-taking materials
- Sticky notes or a magnetic board to keep your place on the chart
- Your knitting bag filled with its usual treasures
